VOIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol has been an area of technology and communications that continues to grow month after month. With evangelists such as Jeff Pulver, or in Canada Alec Saunders and Jon Arnold we may one day get to a point of “$0 long distance”. Well we can hope right?
Montreal based babyTEL announced earlier today 7-digit local calling to all Canadians, eliminating the need to enter the extra 3-digits. babyTEL’s President Steven Dorsey says, “This will resonate with Canadians the phone companies think they’ve trained us to the inevitability of tedious 10-digit dialing in our own area codes. Well, with today’s technology, it’s ridiculous and that’s why we’re offering 7-digit local calling to all Canadians.”
It sounds like a cool feature, their pricing is low enough at $10.95 and $29.95 for packages, but is it enough to undercut some of the virtual VOIP providers such as Skype?
