Recently Bell Aliant announced a partnership with the Government of PEI to expend high speed internet as well as the launch of a new broadband fund. The company has also set in motion plans to launch a next level of FibreOP residential services with a 60 Mbps download and 15 Mbps upload Internet service that will be available in January 2010.
“This new FibreOP Internet service offers an even faster option with unprecedented download and upload speeds, both of which are crucial for the fastest two-way ultimate broadband experience,” said Kelly Duplisea, VP Customer Solutions, Bell Aliant. “The ability for customers to upload quickly is a tremendous advantage, and we’re proud to continue to offer the best Internet experience for our customers.”
Customers will be able to take advantage of the new network speeds that will allow better video upload, video chat an playing of online games. Bell Aliant is the first high speed provider in Canada to cover an entire city with fibre to the home (FTTH) technology, and bring a 100% fibre optic network directly to customers’ homes. Fibre to the home is an advanced broadband network that provides the ultimate experience for Internet and video services, including High Definition television.

I guess we have to move to PEI now. I hope it doesn’t take too long to work out the bugs and roll this out in Toronto…
Thanks Dave.
Ha – You first Andrew
I think it also has to do with the fact that PEI has a smaller land mass, so much cheaper to add all that technology out there.
