Paper isn’t cheap and the financial costs continue to produce a print publication continue to sky rocket quarter after quarter,  the latest to feel the pressure to change is Adweek who recently announced they are dropping their weekly issue and moving to less frequent print and more breaking news and exclusive content from their parent Nielsen.   Â
“While our magazine continues to be an essential element of this iconic, multi-platform brand, we are moving with our audience by relaunching Adweek.com to maximize the value we provide our community— delivering the most robust content in the industry 24/7 replete with exclusive Nielsen data. In addition, we will publish 36 print issues next year, beginning in the first quarter of 2008, and continue to engage the community through our events and forums,” said Sabrina Crow, Senior Vice-President Media and Marketing Group at Nielsen Business Media.
Here in Canada it looks like the two major players, Strategy Magazine and Marketing Magazine (owned by Rogers) have also had their share of challenges and each made significant changes in this past year.  Blogs such as Techcrunch and GigaOm have certainly shaken up the tradition media world and in many cases blogs such as these are now breaking the news.  Personally I think part of the challenge that many traditional reporters or writes tend to be lazy and don’t go digging for the story, they don’t have that sense of urgency to go out there and hunt for information that will make a compelling story to share with their readers.  So what’s in store for 2008, I think we’ll see more publications change their model and there might be a few more that as we did to Business 2.0 earlier this year say good-bye to for good.Â

WRONG - they are not lazy..just that they have a lot of red tape to deal with- which story, when kinda thing.. and by the time a decision is made - some blogger has already posted a tidbit somewhere.. so there’s no story left to tell !!
Wisdom of crowds is what they (MSM) need to contend with !!
