AOL Canada says “You Got Mail”, you’re fired

Rumours have been flying over the Internet the last few days about pending job cuts backs at AOL which would effect divisions around the world, and unfortunately Canada was on that list. Silicon Valley Insider reported “The AOL Halifax (Nova Scotia, Canada) campus covering Voice Services (AOL Voicemail, AOL PhoneLine, the former Total Talk system etc) was reduced by over 50% [yesterday], including ALL of senior management and senior/lead developers. (60 days notice for those told). The remaining 38 staff are all janitorial in nature which doesn’t bode well for the future of the office.” It looks like newly announced AOL Canada General Manager Joseph Arcuri might have a tough haul in 2008 and might be looking to join Jonathon Miller (previous General Manager) who recently took a role Europe with AOL. No official word yet on the effects for the Toronto office of AOL Canada but there will be some more ’shifting of staff in the coming weeks’ from an insider.
