This past year was certainly a true test for many businesses, startups also were faced with similar challenges over the course of 2009. BC-based ACETECH is looking to lend a supporting hand to startups in British Columbia through its Growth Strategy Program, a go-to-market program for companies in the early commercialization stage to address these issues and increase their probability of success.
“Most emerging companies are selling poorly – they do not have a clear and compelling value proposition nor an understanding of how to communicate their value to a potential customer in a manner that succeeds in closing the deal,” said Turfus who has invested in more than 30 technology companies and has seen patterns emerge between those who succeed and those who fail.
The program was first launched in January 2007 and has grown to work with 40 companies participate in a 12 month program and will see anther 18 companies take part in January 2010. The program also leverages the expertise of several of BC’s success entrepreneurs including Ralph Turfus, Ken Spencer, Morgan Sturdy, David Sutcliffe, Tom O’Flaherty, Phil Dubois and Derek Mather.
