Ericsson Snaps Canadian Wi-Fi Company

Ericsson went shopping this week as has started the proceedings to acquire 100% of privately-held BelAir Networks, which is based on Kanata, Ontario. Ericsson will be looking to leverage BelAir’s technology to their technological expertise, IPR, and established customer contracts and relationships. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Wi-Fi is a key strategy in Ericsson’s future as the global user base for smartphones, PCs, tablets and in other consumer electronics devices continues to grow.

The acquisition is expected to close during the first half of 2012, subject to customary closing conditions.
