Torstar Makes 25% Investment In Blue Ant Media

Back in May of this year, Blue Ant Media which is headed up by media veteran Michael MacMillan announced taking a controlling interest in GlassBOX Television, which operates Travel+Escape, Bite TV and AUX TV. Earlier this week Torstar, Canada’s largest newspaper chain announced a 25% investment in Blue Ant Media.

“We believe it’s a great time to establish and grow a new kind of media company in Canada and our investments in High Fidelity and GlassBOX provide a robust and complementary offering for audiences,” said Michael MacMillan, CEO, Blue Ant Media. “We are pleased Torstar Corporation sees the opportunity with our company. Their participation along with Providence will further boost the support of our properties.”

Interesting move on the part of Torstar who has invested quite heavily in digital properties over 2012, but could also be signs that Torstar is looking to carve out a bigger piece of the digital video market place, perhaps even an attempt to go head to head with Michael’s previous employer Alliance Atlantis.
