AOL Canada just announced their new daily magazine called “Editions,” the free app for the Apple iPad streams content from news sites around the globe and of course their own sites as Huffington Post Canada and Techcrunch. Personalized news continues to be a big opportunity for publishers and the iPad offers one of the best opportunities to jump into that space.  Editions delivers 15 topic sections including Design, Tech, Business, Family, Health & Fitness, Sports, Entertainment and Travel.

The app was originally launched in the US and now makes its way to Canada and includes capabilities to share content on various social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

While it makes sense for AOL to launch their own app which they can turn around and deliver advertising on, they have stiff competition from other strongly branded apps such as Flipboard that does the same if not better job providing a great user experience.
